Pope Francis has appointed Father Ger Nash, a priest of the Diocese of Killaloe, as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Ferns.
Firstly, we thank Bishop Denis Brennan for the great work which he has achieved throughout the Diocese of Ferns. His care and attention in developing a programme of child protection in the diocese. His attention to detail in carrying out the pastoral care of people and priests over his years of ministry. For his support to individual priests and individual parishes in the work of the Gospel and building up of community.
Our new Bishop is Monsignor Ger Nash who was born in Glandree in the parish of Tulla. He attended the local primary school and went to secondary school in Tulla. After doing his Leaving Cert he took up business studies. During these teenage years he was involved in youth work through “Muintearas Iosa” and young Christian students and workers.
Since His ordination he was appointed as Chaplain \Teacher in Roscrea Vocational College and in Roscrea Youth Centre. After this he was general manager of Clarecare, a centre for social services in Co Clare. Spending his next years in the Parish of Corofin, Crusheen. He played a major role in developing a pastoral plan for the Diocese in Killaloe and its Parishes.
Monsignor Ger brings a wealth of experience in youth work, pastoral development, coordinating parish work with a clear vision for the future and training catechists and lay people for ministry. We look forward with great hope to his years among us here in the Diocese of Ferns. We assure him of our prayers and support.
