REMEMBERING THE FRIARS KILLED BY CROMWELLS’S TROOPS.
Monday the 11th October, marks the 372nd anniversary of the massacre of Franciscan friars from Wexford by the troops of Cromwell on that day 1649. Among them was Fr Raymond Stafford OFM who stood in the Bullring pleading to prevent a massacre of the people of the town. This weekend, we remember the sacrifice of the friars and most importantly their desire to protect the people of the town. May they rest in peace and may the heroic witness to their faith inspire our generation to be faithful to Christ and his Gospel in the times in which we live.
